As the keystone of Verdun’s defensive system, Fort Douaumont was the scene of fierce fighting and dramatic events during the Battle of Verdun, 1916. After falling into German hands in the early days of the Battle, it was constantly shelled by the French army that recaptured the fort on October 24th of the same year.

Opening Times :

February, March, November and December : 10:00 - 17:00
April and September : 10:00 – 18:00
May and June : 10:00 – 18:30
July and August : 10:00 – 19:00
October : 10:00 – 17:30
Last tickets sold 45 minutes before the Fort closes
The Fort is closed from mid-December to February 1st

Adult : 4 €
Child (8 to 16) : 2 €
Child under 8 : Free
Concessions (Pass Lorraine, ...) : 3 €
Forts Douaumont & Vaux ticket : 6.50 €
Family (2 adults and 2 children – 8 to 16) : 10 €

Note : The inside temperature is around 12°C. Cover up ! The only public toilets on the battlefield are on the car park behind the ossuary.
